A newspaper article by Vanguard from 9 years ago, which shows Pastor E.A Adeboye calling for a protest against the spate of insecurity in Nigeria, has surfaced.

The article surfaced following criticism of yesterday’s protest led by Eedris Abdulkareem and others which called for Pastor Adeboye to speak up on the controversies surrounding the establishment of Ruga settlements.

Shortly after news about yesterday’s protest broke out, many criticized the protesters for taking such stance against a respectable clergyman.

The critics have now been reminded that Pastor Adeboye shouldn’t be silent now just as he was not silent and even urged for a protest during the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

A statement in the Vanguard article 9 years ago quoted Pastor Adeboye speaking against the rate of insecurity via a letter sent to Goodluck Jonathan with an attachment containing signatures of members of his church willing to stage a protest.

It reads in part:

“we cannot afford to celebrate, clinking glasses and congratulating each other when a horrendous decimation of the most vulnerable is picking up a pace and our stock of human capital heading for the abyss.”

“we, your subjects and citizens of this nation whose signatures appear hereunder, greet you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and congratulate you and every Nigerian on this auspicious occasion of the Jubilee of our nation.

“As we mark our 50th anniversary as an independent nation, we are faced with the emergence of kidnapping as the latest Nigerian night mare and one of the most serious threats to our common well being, no one is safe.”
