Hoodlums suspected to be members of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have attacked the Onicha Divisional Headquarters, Isu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, setting ablaze the left wing of the Division and four (4) patrol vehicles.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Command, Odah Obianuju confirmed the incident

The police spokesperson, in a statement, said the attack which occurred around 3pm, Thursday, followed threats by the procribed group accusing the Police of protecting the Fulani Herdsmen whom they alleged are responsible for the killing of one of their members.

A policeman is said to have sustained machete injuries during the attack and is receiving treatment in a hospital.

Thursday’s attack is coming less than a month after a similar incident occurred at Onueke police station in the same Ebonyi State, which claimed the lives of three policemen.

The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State, Aliyu Garba took an on the spot assessment tour of the area and met with the stakeholders in the Community to seek ways with the community in carrying out the investigation on the matter.

The CP while assuring the general public, particularly the residents of the State of his continuous commitment to the protection of lives and properties, urges all to “remain law-abiding as normalcy has totally returned to the area.”
