Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has lauded the verdict of the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin City, the state capital, which dismissed the four petitions challenging his victory at the September 19 governorship polls, describing it as another testament that the judiciary upholds fairness and justice.

The Governor, who spoke in the Government House, Benin, also appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring an impartial judiciary to uphold the wishes of the people.

The three-man panel of the Election Petition Tribunal in Benin City headed by Justice Yunusa Musa dismissed the four petitions from the Action Democratic Party, ADP and its governorship candidate, Iboi Emmanuel; the Action Peoples Party, APP; the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, along with its governorship candidate, Tracy Agol, against Governor Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu on the grounds that they lacked merit.

The Governor noted that the petitions against his victory at the September 19, 2020, governorship election which bordered on his eligibility to contest as a result of alleged certificate forgery among others were driven by selfishness and anti people tendencies.

Governor Obaseki was thankful to the people of Edo for standing firmly by him. He also appreciated the Peoples Democratic Party for the unwavering commitment to the development of the State.
