Gombe State govt calls for Calm amidst Mai Tangale Crisis

The Gombe state government says it has not announced the New Mai Tangale as it calls for calm from the people for the process to be completed.

However, the Tangale people said that the state government should name their choice having conducted an election amongst the nine districts in the area.

The state government said that the appointment of the new Tangale is according to the new chieftaincy law amended by the state assembly in 2020.

A new normal on the streets of Billiri in Billiri local government area of the state as women blocked the major highway bordering Gombe and Adamawa and Taraba states.

Making an entrance into the areas was difficult as the people couldn’t hide their feelings. For the community, it was about their right to choose beyond choice or religion.

For the state government, their right to choose rest with the state governor who by law would pick the new traditional ruler. The effect of protest reflects on the long line of heavy-duty vehicles denied access to and fro the community.
