Gianluca Vialli reveals year-long cancer battle

Former Chelsea’s Italian striker and coach, Gianluca Vialli has disclosed he is “fine now” after secretly battling cancer for a while.

After eight months of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiotherapy, Vialli opened up on his battle with cancer, in a hope it inspires those battling with cancer to fight and stay strong.

In 1996, Vialli joined Chelsea, scoring 40 goals in 78 games in all competitions. He would go on to lead the team as a player-coach two years later, leading it to the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup titles.

The Italian scored 16 goals in 59 caps for the Azzuris and now works as a tv pundit.
