Ghana polls: ex-president Mahama set for third showdown with Akuffo-Addo

Leading Presidential candidates in Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo and former president, John Dramami Mahama have signed a peace pact for a violent free election come December 7.

The two have expressed their commitments to a peaceful election process at the Presidential Elections Peace Pact 2020 organized by the National Peace Council yesterday.
The sitting President, Akufo-Addo will be running on the platform og the New Patriotic Party, whilst his main opposition, Mahama is on the National Democratic Congress Party.

The move is a step in the right direction as election proceedings on the African continent are plagued with violence. In deep contrast to the upcoming Ghanaian elections, Uganda has suffered spates of violence as its national elections are due early next year.

The Ghanaian Electoral COmmission Chairperson, Jean Mensa has assured that the process will be as transparent as possible and that security personnel will be deployed to discourage any violent activities that may ensue.
