Ghana has declared a week-long mourning period for him. Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo in a statement on Saturday described Annan as a “consummate” diplomat and said he was “deeply saddened” by the news of his death.

The president directed that the country’s flag be flown at half-mast across the country and in all of Ghana’s diplomatic missions across the world for one week from Monday.

According to him, Annan brought considerable recognition to Ghana by this position and through his conduct and comportment in the global arena.
