Barely a week away, a Presidential Statement went out retiring the National Service Chiefs, much to the relief of different regional leaders and citizens, who welcomed the development.

Before the dust settled, a letter was addressed to the Senate President nominated each of the recently retired Service Chiefs as Non-Career Ambassadors-Designate and requested expedited consideration.

In accordance with section 171 (1), (2) (c) & sub-section (4) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the under-listed five (5) names of nominees as Non-Career Ambassadors-Designate.

“The nominees are: Gen Abayomi G. Olonisakin (Rtd), Lt Gen Tukur Y. Buratai (Rtd), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd), and Air Vice Marshal Mohammed S. Usman (Rtd).

“The President urged the Senate to give expeditious consideration to the nominations.”

The news has been met with a lot of chagrin on social media as several have expressed grouse over the news because it appears the President is doing every and all possible to keep them in close quarters.

Consequently, the state of security within the country has continued to worsen, ever so recently, 2000 Nigerians were reported dead from violent attacks in the last quarter of 2020 alone.

Some communities have also taken to pleading with abductors for mercy, after no other options seemed to have worked
