French Open champ, Ashleigh Barty now world no 2, eyes top spot

Australian tennis sensation, Ashleigh Barty has moved up to the number two spot in the world rankings following her stunning triumph at the French Open.

The feat pushed Barty to within 136 points of Naomi Osaka’s world number one position, a spot well within the Australian’s reach pending on how well she fares on grass.

Basking in the euphoria of her triumph, Barty expressed her delight at winning her maiden slam title and has revealed her next target is upsetting Naomi Osaka as the best player in the world.

At age 15, Ashleigh Barty won the Wimbledon junior title but stepped away from tennis three years after to play professional cricket.

However, she made her return to the sport in 2016 and has since achieved steady progress which culminated in the French Open success.
