Czech’s Petra Kvitova on Wednesday reached the semi-finals of the French Open for the first time in eight years, defeating German veteran, Laura Siegemund, 6-3 6-3, to continue her run at the grand slam tourney.

The 30-year-old is bidding for a third Grand Slam title, following her return from a career-threatening knife attack in her home Prostejov, Czech Republic, in December 2016, which almost ruined her career.

The seventh seed and two-time Wimbledon champion will now play 2020 Australian open champion Sofia Kenin who defeated compatriot Danielle Collins 6-4, 4-6-0, for a spot in Saturday’s final.
