FREE EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN IN SIERRA LEONE

The President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio has announced free education for kids in primary and secondary schools in fulfilment to a campaign promise, that all children within primary and secondary school age would get free education from the government.

He extended the pledge to three children of every school teacher with ten years’ experience. They will get a free university education. Mr Bio also added that a loan scheme for students would be introduced, whereas teachers who are based in rural areas would get special incentives.

In terms of budget allocation, the president announced raising the budgetary allocation for education from 11 percent to 20 percent going forward.
