Floods claims the lives of dozens of Somalians, leaves 400 homeless

The flood in Somalia has taken the lives of dozens and have affected about one million Somali residents and displaced more than 400 thousand Somalis from their homes. This data confirmed by the United Nations.

On Sunday, May 17 In Beledweyne, a city in Central Somalia, Shabelle river has burst its banks and resulted in flooding. City residents paddled through floodwater and are stranded as roads are closed.

The flood left residents drenched and also heightened fears in officials who think the deluge may result in an outbreak of diseases.

A Beledweyne resident identified as Hassan Elmi stated that the water level as increased from yesterday to today. And the flood has changed the course of things in the City.

According to him, the Somalian Government is effecting affected people, but the weak and old needs to most help he stated. These are people that can paddle through the flood water by themselves as the water is moving really fast.

24 people already lost their lives to the heavy flood. The highlands of neighboring Ethiopia was also flooded and soaked as a result of the heavy rainfall.
