A recent U.N. World Food Program situation report has revealed that the above-average rainfall and devastating flooding have affected 5 million people this year in 19 countries across West and Central Africa.

Nigeria has recorded at least 600 deaths while authorities in neighboring Niger, say at least 192 people have died there as the result of storms, either from homes collapsing or from drowning in flood waters.

the Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Leeds, Dr. John Marsham, stated that “climate change kind of turns the dial on, increases the intensity of the response and increases the droughts and increases the floods”.
