The Nigerian government says it secured 1.1 billion dollars in world bank credit facilities in 2020 to tackle adult illiteracy, out-of-school children, Girl and Nomadic education.

At a briefing in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, says out of school children have dropped from 10.1 million to 9.1 million as he threatens to begin punishment of illiterate adult not engaged in any form of learning.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, led about 10 ministers to the 2020 annual ministerial briefing by the Minister of Education.

The briefing in mid January 2021 comes amidst the impact of covid-19 on resumption dates, examination timetable, and educational activities since march 2020.

The Government gave a strong commitment to drastically reduce the number of out of school children from current 9.1 million, and adult illiteracy

The Government is not only proud of newly approved 4 public, 4 private universities, 6 colleges of education and 6 polytechnics in 2020, but the 1.7 trillion spent on infrastructure in tertiary institutions in a covid 19 ravaged 2020

However, the nine months strike by academic staff union of universities remains in the black books of minister Adamu

The federal government used the occasion to thank the various boards of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions and promised to inaugurate new ones soon.
