To pull 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, every year, invests one billion US dollars into the National Social Investment Programme, NSIP.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management And Social Development, Sadiya Faruk, said this during the presentation of engagement letters and electronic tablets, to monitors of the NSIP in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

To tackle the challenges facing the effective implementation of the NSIP, the Federal Government has trained over 248 independent monitors.

They are saddled with the responsibility of supervising the activities of the beneficiaries of the four programmes, which include the N-power, the Conditional Cash Transfer, the Government Enterprise and the Empowerment Programme, and the National Home-grown School Feeding Programme.

Faruk, represented by the National Coordinator of the NSIP, Umar Bindir, said yearly, one billion US dollars are being invested into the programme, to reduce the level of poverty in the country.

One of the challenges highlighted during the training of the 248 monitors of the beneficiaries of the programme is the lack of transparency and accountability.

The monitors were, therefore, warned against engaging in any form of fraudulent act.

The electronic tablets given to the beneficiaries are connected to the ministry’s national server to gather the findings by the monitors in their various localities.
