The Federal Government says it is currently in search of more Covid-19 vaccines to acquire and administer to its citizens.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who made this known, Thursday at the special weekly briefing organised by the Presidential Communication Team at the Presidential Villa, said due to global shortage in production of vaccines, the much-envisaged supply of vaccine to Nigeria may not come in soon, noting that more vaccines may probably come in by July or August.

He noted that Nigeria is in talks with COVAX, and other producing or donor countries to make vaccines available to the country.

While giving updates on the strike embarked upon by resident doctors and other health workers, Ehanire said the government is in talks with various health associations to address their grievances.

The Executive Secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, reiterated that so far over 1.9 million eligible Nigerians have taken their 1st dose of the oxford-AstraZeneca, and close to 5000 Nigerians have received their 2nd dose of the vaccine.

The Director-General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the agency is proactively monitoring global trends and scaled up risk communications efforts and testing, warning that Nigeria is not out of the woods yet and caution is still very key.
