The Federal Government has said it is currently taking a look at the University Transparency Account System, UTAS, payment platform developed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

The Minister of Labour, Employment, and Productivity, Chris Ngige, gave the hint at a meeting with the leadership of the Senate on Tuesday.

The meeting was at the instance of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to resolve the lingering crisis between the Federal Government and ASUU.

In his preliminary statement, before the meeting went behind closed doors, Ngige said the Federal Government was studying the details of the UTAS as presented by the ASUU juxtaposing it with whatever deficiencies there are in the Integrated Payment System, IPPIS.

The ASUU had soundly rejected the implementation of the IPPIS as it embarked on indefinite strike last February.

The face-off between the ASUU and FG has heightened in the wake of the pronouncement by President Muhammadu Buhari, insisting that only workers captured on the IPPIS will receive salaries.

Speaking, Lawan said the current impasse between the ASUU and the Federal Government is an ill-wind that will not do any of the two parties any good.

The Senate President asked the two parties to find a middle ground to resolve their differences. “It has to be a win-win situation”, Lawan said.

Tuesday’s meeting with the Federal Government delegation is ahead of a similar dialogue with ASUU.

Also present at the meeting were the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.

On Monday, the Senate President met with the ASUU, appealing to the members to sheath their sword.

Ippis is not helping issue at all
Increment in the salary of staff of Asuu and Asup must be considered.
