The Federal Government has cautioned members of the diplomatic community against undue interference in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the re-scheduled polls on Saturday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, issued the caution during an interactive session with members of the diplomatic corps in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said Nigeria appreciates the support and engagement of the international community through the various observer missions, but stressed that Nigeria has absolute and exclusive responsibility for its electoral process.

He also called on members of the international community with a vested interest in Nigeria to be impartial in their observation in the interest of the country.

Onyeama also expressed disappointment at Independent National Electoral Commission, the INEC’s postponement of the election despite the financial backing of the government.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, admitted that the Commission underestimated the inherent logistic challenges.

Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, reassured Nigerians that adequate security will be provided for Saturday’s polls.
