The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has passed its Livestock Breeding, Rearing, and Marketing Regulation Bill.

The legislation when assented into law will make for the establishment of a body that would oversee the registration and issuance of permits to those involved in the livestock business and designated areas for the purpose.

Speaker of the Bayelsa State legislature, Abraham Ingobore, shortly after the passage of the bill, expressed the conviction that when in force, the legislation would prevent further conflict between mostly farmers and cattle rearers.

Reports have it that highlights of the legislation which was introduced on the Executive Bill were presented on the floor of the House a fortnight ago, including banning of indiscriminate livestock grazing, punishment for rustling, and illegal possession of firearms.
