After Thursday’s nationwide broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari, calm is gradually returning to the streets of Enugu, southeast Nigeria.

Enugu metropolis had witnessed violent protests after suspected hoodlums hijacked days of peaceful #EndSARS protests by the youths in the area.

The youths of Enugu North Council, one of the three council areas of the state where a 24-hour curfew is being imposed by the state government, came out in their numbers clearing major streets of debris and road blockages by violent protesters who hijacked the earlier peaceful End SARS and End Police Brutality protests in the city.

The youth volunteers called on all to allow peace to reign in the state.

Some of them who spoke to reporters condemned the violent protests by some unknown hoodlums who they said are not the state’s youths but infiltrators from other states.

It is obvious that the youths in the state are heeding the appeal made by the President in a nationwide broadcast on Thursday night to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage the government in finding solutions to the issues raised on police brutality, human rights abuses, and reforms in the Nigeria Police Force.
