Electricity workers in Protest to demand full payment of arrears

Electricity workers in Kano have staged a peaceful protest to demand full payment of 48 months arrears, transfer allowances, and confirmation of eligible staff.

Entrances to the kano distributions company KEDCO was also placed under locked by the striking workers.

The strike grounded activities at the headquarters of the distribution company and other substation within the state.

Management and some staffs who resumed work were denied access to the premises.
Zonal Organising Secretary of the national union of electricity employees, Bukar Barde said they were out to express their grievances on how the staff of the company are being maltreated.

The union leaders said they have reached several agreement with the management of KEDCO on staffs welfare but the latter fail to fulfil those agreements.

The workers threatened to shutdown power in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States if their demands are not urgently addressed.
