Electricity Hike: Organised Labour and FG postpone meetings

The federal government and organised Labour meeting on increases in petrol and electricity tarrif on Monday received report of two technical committees.

While the technical committee chaired by Minister of state for labour, Festus Keyamo submitted an interim report, the one on PMS Pricing framework by Onoche Anyoku submitted a completed report.

Part of the recommendations of the PMS pricing framework committee include the urgent need for government to direct NIMASA and NPA to begin to collect charges in Naira and not foreign currencies.

The committee also urge government to allow for uniformity in exchange rates for importation while it also blamed continuous importation of petrol as responsible for frequent price regime.

For the technical sub committee on electricity, the secretary, who is the special assistant to president buhari on infrastructure, Ahmed Zakari said the committee will meet Wednesday to continue its assignment, but was quick to blame inadequate energy supply as reason for fluctuating tarrif.

On their part, the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, The minister of labour chris Ngige and state for petroleum, Timipreye Sylva assured organised labour of governments commitment to implement policies that will better the lot of the masses.

Meanwhile organised labour has requested for three weeks to study the technical committee report, with promises to ensure the worker and indeed Nigerians do not continue exorbitant charges in electricity and fuel.
