The Elewu of Ewu Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Bamidele Adetutu Ajayi, has been shot by some suspected gunmen in the wee hours of Friday, April 9, 2021.

The traditional ruler was traveling from his community, Ewu-Ekiti to Ayetoro-Ekiti, a neighbouring town when he was shot by the suspected bandits.

Oba Ajayi who drove himself when the incident occurred was alone in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and hospitalised after the gunmen attacked him.

A resident of the town, who is also a former member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Segun Erinle, who spoke to reporters, said he could not explain how the incident occurred but established the fact that the traditional ruler was actually shot by some suspected attackers.

Erinle further stressed that the traditional ruler managed to escape from the assailants and drove himself to a place where some good samaritans came to his rescue and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

It was also gathered that some suspected Fulani herdsmen have made the Ewu-Ayetoro-Ekiti their abode in recent times to perpetrate evil.

Meanwhile, members of the Oodua People’s Congress and Vigilantes Groups in the area have formed a synergy in the two communities to comb the bush, find the perpetrators of the evil act, and secure the area from further attack.

All efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, ASP Abutu Sunday, were not successful as his mobile lines were switched off at the time of filling this report.
