Egyptians can now contribute to reducing food waste by ordering fresh excess food from restaurants and other suppliers with a discount, via the application Tekeya.
Users in the Arab world’s most populous country can also order meals and send them to charities. Restaurants too can donate their excess food for free.
The application was founded by the Dubai-based couple Menna Shahin and her husband, Max Haartsen, who launched it in 2019.

While the application now relies on a provider-to-consumer model, a future phase of the project will introduce a provider-to-provider model, where supermarkets sell their excess products to restaurants at reduced prices.
