The world of business rejoiced as the Ever Given Container got unstuck at the Suez Canal, it appears that the celebrations came in too early as Egypt has announced plans to impound the 220,000 tonne vessel due to the financial impact of the incident.

The Ever Given reportedly delayed goods worth over $9 billion for everyday it was stuck across the Suez as it held up 442 smaller ships from going to and fro in total, as a result, Eygypt is demanding $900 million in damages.

In addition, a separate investigation is currently underway into why and how the container ran aground. Lt Gen Osama Rabie who claims negotiations for a compensation are underway, suggested that the owners of the vessel, Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd. don’t want to pay anything.

The Japanese firm is yet to respond with a statement.
