Lagos State male and Edo state female cricket teams have won the gold medals at the 20th National Sports Festival, Edo 2020.
Lagos won the final match against Kaduna by 21 runs to emerge champions. The men’s final between team Lagos and Kaduna was fierce as expected.
Playing a modified 30 overs format, both teams were aware of the need to score quick runs.
Lagos won the toss and elected to bat, posting 123 runs all out in the first innings.
The champions made life difficult for team Kaduna in their batting game.
Kaduna had a slow start in the second innings managing to post only 56 runs after 23 overs. However, their last batting order gave a glimpse of hope but it was rather too late for a chase as team Kaduna managed 102 runs after 30 overs as team Lagos won the match by 21 runs while Edo State claimed the bronze medal.
In the women’s game team, Edo who are national champions won the gold medal after defeating Akwa Ibom by 14 runs in the finals as team Kaduna settled for bronze.
Medals were later presented to the winners.
