At least one Magistrate collapsed on Tuesday morning at the governor’s office gate in Calabar, while protesting with others over non-payment of their two-year salaries by the Cross River State Government.
Rescue however came to the fainted Magistrate who was said to have been hungry and also stood for long hours during the peaceful protest to demand for their unpaid salaries in front of Government House Calabar.
The thirty Protesting Judicial officers with some of them in their regalias carried placards with different inscriptions, came from the eighteen local government areas of the state.
Speaking to reporters, Leader of the magistrates, Solomon Abuo said they have made up their mind as part of their new year resolution to embark on the protest every day until Government listen and pay their two years salaries.
Abuo said all of them were duely and judiciously employed after meeting all the required recruitment procedures in 2018 only for them not to be paid after working for two years.
He explained that the protest was their last option since all efforts were not yielding result.
Efforts to speak with the Cross River State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tank Ashang on the matter was not successful as he promised to call back after his meeting with some critical stakeholders but could not get back at the time of filing this report.
