The 2020 US Open Champion, Dominic Thiem, shocked Rafael Nadal, beating the 20 Grand Slam champion in straight sets, at the ATP Finals on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old claimed the victory on his fifth match point, meeting for the first time since the 2020 Australian Open quarterfinals, with the Austrian progressing in a four-set thriller.
The 2020 US Open champion who beat defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening round on Sunday, will be guaranteed semifinals qualification if Tsitsipas overcomes newcomer Andrey Rublev.
Nadal who beat the latter in his opening round failed to qualify, and will now play the Greek top seed on Thursday with a semifinal place at stake.
