Delta 2022: Nathaniel & Okon-George Claim 1st Ever 400m Title

Samson Nathaniel representing Delta State and Patience Okon-George of Cross River have seven national titles between them, but it was on Day 3 of Athletics events at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba that the pair claimed their first ever National Sports Festival individual titles in the men’s and women’s 400 metres .

Nathaniel claimed the GOLD medal with a time of 46.08 seconds, Johnson Nnamani representing Bayelsa edged picked the Silver medal in 46.28 seconds while Sikiru Adeyemi of Oyo state got Bronze in 46.30 seconds.

In the field event , thrower Ashley Anumba, representing Rivers State and competing in her first ever National Sport Festival won Gold with a new personal best of 59.06 metres. Reigning Commonwealth Games Champion Chioma Onyekwere clinched the Silver medal while Obiageri Amaechi who won Bronze in Mauritius and Birmingham, settled for 3rd place.

In the women’s shot put , Sade Olatoye made a winning return to the event, throwing a mark of 16.15m to win GOLD for Delta State.
