The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized a suspect linked to the importation of 40 and 20 feet containers loaded with Tramadol tablets allegedly smuggled from India.

The controller of the Command, Musa Abdullah, said on Tuesday that the confiscation follows the federal government ban on codeine syrup.

The controller said the one by 40 and two by 20 containers of Tramadol Hydrochloride 225mg were tagged as electrical static converters and ciprofloxacin.

Reports say officers of the command in collaboration with NAFDAC and NDLEA, intercepted the container after efforts to smuggle them out of the seaport.

Tramadol is considered an opioid analgesic, which is generally prescribed for moderate to moderately severe pain and is seen as a better substitute for other narcotic painkillers.

It is one of the controlled drugs being abused by some youths in the country leading to injurious addiction and side effects.
