The Centre for Transparency Advocacy has called on the military to allow the Nigerian Police to remain the first line of security during the elections as it has no direct constitutional role to play during elections.

Convener of the group, Faith Nwadishi, who made the call at a briefing on Friday in Abuja, also called on Nigerians to come out en-mass and vote during the rescheduled elections.

After the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, postponing the presidential and National Assembly elections to February 23, the Centre for Transparency Advocacy hailed the decision.

They, however, said they will keenly monitor Saturday’s polls.
The group also told the military to treat security matters according to the laws of the land.

It called on election observers across the country to report only facts and figures without heating the polity.

The 2010 Electoral Act stipulates punishment for electoral offences and therefore, they want the security agencies to obey the law.
