On Sunday, May 17, Sokoto State Ministry of Health via their Twitter account announced the discharge of 5 COVID-19 patients from IDH Amanawa Isolation Centre after testing negative to the virus. The State has 66 recovered patients and 113 confirmed cases. The Jigawa State Government disclosed the secret to the mass recovery of COVID-19 patients in the state.

Following the discharge of 9 more patients which plunged the number of recoveries in the state to 71. COVID-19 patients in Jigawa are treated with Hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, zinc, and multivitamins which most respond positively to as disclosed by Dr Abba Zakari the Chairman COVID-19 state task force.

According to him, the 9 samples were taken to Bayero University, Kano laboratory and they returned negative. The State has 198 confirmed cases with Almajiris making up 98 of the cases Lagos State remains the hotspot area of the outbreak in the country. Yesterday, Nigeria confirmed 338 cases of the virus with Lagos making up 177 of these confirmed cases.

The Lagos State Police arrested 1,872 people within the past two weeks for flouting the lockdown directives as the state continues its Coronavirus battle. They were charged to the State’s mobile court by the command’s legal team at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Yaba. While 1,833 suspects pleaded guilty and were found guilty by the court, 33 others pleaded not guilty. These 33 suspects are to remain in the police custody until the next court hearing.

Governor Hope Uzodinma disclosed in a Statement in Owerri the discharge of 3 COVID-19 patients who tested negative two times to the virus. The number of confirmed patients in the State remains at 7. Also in Lagos, 3 of the 256 willing Nigerians who returned to the State on Wednesday, May 6 from Dubai tested positive to the virus. This was revealed by Akin Abayomi, the State’s Commissioner for Health via his Twitter page yesterday. The 3 patients have been transferred to @followlasg #COVID19 care centre for care and monitoring.

Kaduna State Government has reviewed market days in the state. Before the review, residents in the state are only allowed to go out of Saturdays and Wednesdays to get groceries. On Sunday, May 17, Hafiz Bayero announced Wednesdays and Thursdays are the new market day from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. Therefore, all markets would be shut on Saturday. In the same breath, sellers and buyers compulsorily have to wear face masks in while in the market these days. He also urged sellers not to set up stalls near the closed main markets or they would be punished for it.

Dr Emmanuel Ikechukwu, Enugu’s Commissioner for Health on Sunday, May 17 announced that the 3-year old who tested Positive to Coronavirus in the state tested negative to the virus. In the same breath, a 13-year old admitted for the virus also tested negative. They are part of the 10 patients admitted in the State. Kano’s cases plunged to 825 as the State confirms 64 more cases. The State has 18 recoveries and 1 death to the virus. This was disclosed by the State’s Ministry of Health yesterday via a Tweet.

The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers implored the President to change the Inspector General of Police’s order on the movement of agricultural produce in the state. The IGP had lifted the interstate ban to allow for the swift movement of livestock, goods, and other agricultural produce. The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers argued that although this act by the IGP may seem good, it is, however, endangering the lives of the people in the state admits the outbreak and also flouting the directives of the Federal Government.

Akwa Ibom’s Governor, Udom Emmanuel made known that 68 suspected COVID-19 patients were trying to smuggle themselves into the State through unconventional borders for proper treatment in the state. As gathered, people are making an attempt to sneak into Akwa-Ibom because they heard of the good facility in the State for treating the pandemic disease. Udom Emmanuel disclosed that he has text messages where people are encouraging their colleagues from other states to come into Akwa Ibom for effective treatment.

When this Information got to him, he immediately asked the Police to block these people from entering. In the same breath, he revealed the infection cycle in the state is declining. The State currently has 18 cases. The former Minister of Aviation, Fani Kayode via his twitter page asked about the whereabouts of the 15 Chinese Doctors.

Lai Mohammed, the country’s Minister of Information and Culture announced about a month ago that the 15 Chinese Doctors who came into the country on Wednesday, 8 April are treating COVID-19 patients at isolation Centers. The doctors reportedly came into Nigeria with medical equipment worth about $1.5 million. This announcement by Lai Mohamed was the last update about the Chinese doctors in the country.  Osagie Ehanire, the country’s health Minister in a Statement on Thursday 14 May, warned journalists not to ask him about an update on the Chinese Doctors as the Ministry of Health didn’t host these doctors in the first place.
