SIERRA LEONE STATE OF EMERGENCY

Julius Maada Bio, the president of Sierra Leone declared a 12 months state of emergency in the country due to the COVID 19 virus spreading rapidly across the globe.

Although the country has not yet confirmed any cases of the raging pandemic, the president is not taking any chances. The state of public emergency began yesterday, Tuesday, 24th of March.

Last week, the Sierra Leonian government imposed several measures to help prevent the rise of the Pandemic in the country. None of which was a lockdown.

The international airport in Freetown, Sierra Leone witnessed a suspected case of the COVID 19. A passenger from Kenya was the suspected carrier of the virus which lead to the quarantine of all the passengers on board the plane.

Three of the passengers refused to follow the protocol saying that they’d rather return to where they were coming from than be kept in isolation.

The Sierra Leonian government has declared that there should not be a gathering of more than 100 people in one place at the same time.
