The Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19 has announced a reintroduction of restrictions on mass gatherings effective on Tuesday, May 11.

This follows an increase in the number of fatalities and a surge in the number of cases in Brazil, India, and Turkey.

The new restrictions will affect religious groups, weddings, and nightclubs. The new directive also reintroduces curfew from midnight to 4 am.

Military personnel are to monitor and enforce adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions on public transport, that is wearing face masks and maintaining social distance.

The Nigerian government also announced that all indoor and recreational sports should close by the 11th of June. It has also appealed to state governments to enforce these guidelines with violators made to pay a heavy fine.
