Elisha Abbo fined ₦50 million over viral physical assault video

The Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Elisha Abbo, has been granted bail in the sum of N5million.

This was after the lawmaker was arraigned by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police at Zuba Magistrate Court, Abuja before Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilellah.

He was granted bail in the sum of N5million and the sureties must have verifiable addresses within the Federal Capital Territory.

The case has since been adjourned to July 22nd for hearing.

The video of the Senator assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja went viral, attracting a public outrage in condemnation of the act.

Following the public outcry, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT, CP Bala Ciroma to investigate the matter.

The investigation led to the invitation of the Senator to the Command, which further led to his detention on Thursday.

He was however released on Friday afternoon after meeting the bail conditions.

Abbo has since confirmed that he is indeed the man in the video and that he will release a statement soon in that regard.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the case. Six men and two women were chosen as members of the committee which will be headed by Senator Sam Egwu.
