Court Grants Ondo Pastor Bail In Rape Case

In a bid to decongest correctional centres across Ondo State in the wake of  Coronavirus pandemic, a Magistrate court in Owo town of the state has granted bail to a pastor who allegedly raped and brutalised a 16-year-old girl.

The pastor, Peter Alatake of the Holy Ghost Mission Church, was arraigned for having canal knowledge of the secondary school girl who was suffering from epilepsy. 

The 16-year-old victim was taken to the church last year to get healing from the epilepsy ailment she has been battling with for some time.

Alatake was, however, granted bail by Chief Magistrate Olubumi Dosumu in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate said granting the suspect bail was based on efforts to decongest custodial centres to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. 

The Ondo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adekola Olawoye (SAN), is prosecuting the case on behalf of the state.
