Court finally rules in Ese Oruru’s abduction and forced marriage case

The Yenogoa Federal High Court in Bayelsa has finally ruled on the famous Ese Oruru case. Ese was reportedly abducted when she was 16 years old and forcefully married off to Yinusa Dahiru in Kano State.

Ese had her name changed to Aisha, converted to Islam and eventually bore a child from the ordeal. Dahiru was charged with child abuse, rape, holding Ese against her will, child trafficking and infringement on her right to religion.

The sitting judge, Jane Inyang sentenced Dahiru to a cumulative period of 26 years in prison, he would serve five years on a second count, seven years on a third count, another seven years on a fourth count and finally seven more years on the fifth count.
