boca juniors appeal rejected by cas

Boca Juniors’ appeal to have arch-rival, River Plate disqualified from the Copa Libertadores final due to the awful behaviour of the club’s supporters has been rejected by the CAS.

Boca Juniors’ appeal came after fans of River Plate attacked the Boca team bus ahead of the second leg on the 24th of November, resulting in injuries to a handful of its players.

Moreover, Boca Junior’s appeal follows a similar scenario in 2015 wherein they were the erring side and got ejected from the competition as a measure of punishment.

However, CAS confirmed that it has rejected an urgent appeal by Boca Juniors; the body said the “merits of the appeal will be examined at a later stage by a CAS arbitral panel.”

The second leg of the Copa Libertadores final will go ahead tomorrow in Madrid with the tie in the balance 2-2.
