Gbenga Omotosho, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information in an exclusive interview with Plus TV Africa on this morning’s News On The Hour explained the plans the Lagos Government currently has to manage the impending dearth to be left by the ban on Motorcycles and Tricycles scheduled to commence February 1.

According to the Commissioner, the ban is not a new development and it has been in existence prior to now but wasn’t enforced after some time. He opines that since there were no casualties the first time the ban was effected, not much difference should be anticipated now.

It is, however, noteworthy that the population of Lagos State has exponentially grown since its figure of 17.5 million to the arching 23 million in 2020 within the same landmass area.

He also explained how several buses are yet to be cleared from the ports to manage the situation but maintained that loss of lives and decapitated limbs were too much a price to pay according to the estimates from the State Hospitals.

He also noted that 200cc or no ( which are exempted), private motorcycle brands who were not dutifully informed according to Mr Chinedu, the co-founder of Max.ng, are expected to cease public transportation within the state by Feb 1.

In a separate interview with Mr Chinedu Azodoh, he criticizes the plan for the Lagos State Government to ban motorcycles due to safety. He argues that it doesn’t solve the problems as cars and trucks are also culprits in accidents and state that something is fundamentally wrong in banning motorcycles and tricycles. Especially on roads that are not motorable.
