Zamfara State Government has perfected plans to conduct vaccination for the residents of Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas of the State against cholera, to prevent the outbreak of the disease in the state.
The Executive Secretary, Zamfara State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Tukur Isma’il, made this known while speaking on the efforts being made by the state government to curtail the outbreak of cholera in the state.
Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State are the frontlines of banditry activities in the state, with several communities displaced as a result.
This perhaps made the two local councils the high-risk areas of the cholera outbreak in the state.
The Executive Secretary Zamfara State Primary Healthcare Board explained that the state government in collaboration with its partners had planned to give vaccination to the residents of Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas of the state against the disease to stem its outbreak.
He hinted that the state government is focusing its attention on areas that are vulnerable to the outbreak of the disease, which accounted for the plans to administer the vaccine in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas first, before the other local government areas in the state.
Dr Isma’il emphasized the need for the residents of Zamfara State to imbibe the attitude of keeping a clean environment, regular handwashing after using the toilet, before and after eating, and personal hygiene practices.
He stressed that by so doing, they can prevent the outbreak of cholera in the state in particular, and Nigeria at large.
The Executive Secretary, Zamfara State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Tukur Ismail hinted that the state government has since commenced regular sensitization and awareness creation to the residents, through relevant stakeholders, such as the religious leaders, Civil Society Organizations and health partners, on how to contain the spread of cholera in the state.
