Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, has led kinsmen and other residents at Zabarmari on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the state capital, for the funeral of the 43 rice farmers slain by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
The residents had said that the gunmen arrived on Saturday at about mid-day to carry out their dastardly act, in the predominantly farming community, known for rice cultivation and local processing.
Governor Zulum, during the visit, was told that 43 bodies had been recovered, but that the death toll is still uncertain.
The Governor assured that the remaining missing persons will be traced soon while noting that plans are being made with the military.
Governor Zulum said that the Borno people are in a very difficult situation.
