Residents of the Benin-Sapele-Warri road bypass in Edo State Tuesday morning blocked the ever-busy road which leads to other south-south states in Nigeria.
The residents were aggrieved over the deplorable state of the road as they said it has become a death trap to users. They sought the government’s urgent intervention on the road.
When reporters got to the Benin-Sapele road bypass to view the situation, vehicles and travellers were at a standstill while few individuals were seen covering the distance by foot, due to the barricades used in blocking the road at various points.
Residents of the area lamented that the road which has been in a deplorable state for many years has been abandoned by the government even when the government’s attention had been drawn to it severally.
Business owners around the vicinity complained that the bad state of the road has affected their businesses negatively as they no longer get customers to buy their goods. Some stranded motorists also lamented the situation.
