The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has been urged to create more registration centers in Bayelsa owing to the peculiar geographic nature of the state.

Some Yenagoa residents who stated this while lamenting on the strike action embarked upon by NIMC workers nationwide, said the move has become necessary to ensure bonafide citizens of the country are captured on the nation’s Identity database.

The locked premises of the National Identity Management Commission’s State Office in Yenagoa Bayelsa State, explains the situation of the ongoing nationwide strike by NiMC workers. Many individuals were however seen hanging around.

Bayelsa State, according to the NIMC staff has fifteen data – capture registration centres. This is for a population of about 3.8 million people, most of whom, live in distant riverine communities.

The need to adopt creative measures targeted at ensuring wide capture on the national database was also emphasised.

The various NIMC registration Centers in Bayelsa State like in other parts of the country have been flooded by people, following the decision of the Nigerian Communications Commission to block all mobile sIm cards not linked with national identification numbers
