Bauchi State Emirate Council has bowed to pressure and made a U-turn on its earlier decision to suspend this year’s Durbar celebration and other activities.

The council’s Information Officer, Babangida Hassan, had earlier in a statement, said the  Emirate Council has resolved to suspend this year’s Durbar celebrations and other activities for security purposes.

The decision of the Emirate Council seems not to have gone well with some Bauchi residents who condemned the action.

Barely 24 hours following the previous announcement by the Emirate Council, it has now bowed to pressure.

The Chairman of the Durbar Committee, Muhammad Gidado, who is the Madakin Bauchi, while addressing reporters shortly after the meeting, said the council, after consultation with the state government and other relevant key stakeholders, have resolved to now hold the 2021 Durbar celebration and other activities, as tradition demands.

Now that the earlier decision to cancel the Durbar is no more, Bauchi residents are hopeful that the long-practiced tradition will encompass adequate security.
