World number one Ashleigh Barty has withdrawn from the US open scheduled for late August through September, as she has stated that she is not comfortable with travelling conditions during the pandemic.
The 24 year- old Australian, is one of the biggest names, to pull out of the second grand slam tournament as a result of the global pandemic. Early last month, it was reported that Simona Halep will not take part in the competition.
In a statement, the grand slam champion said the decision taken was a difficult one as there are significant risks involved in traveling.
She further said she wishes the united states tennis association the best in the US Open, as she looks forward to returning in 2021. Barty has yet to make a decision, whether or not she will defend her title at the French Open starting in late September
