The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, has upheld the election of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in the Ondo October 10, 2020, governorship election.

The five-man panel led by Justice Theresa Orji-Abadua gave the judgment after dismissing the appeal of the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede in the election.

Jegede had approached the appellate court after the tribunal on the 20th April 2021 dismissed his petition challenging the nomination and election of Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa for lacking in merit.

Justice Abadua said the appellate court came to a conclusion that the appeal lacks merit.

The judges held that the non-joinder of Governor Mala Buni as the All Progressives Congress National Caretaker Chairman is fatal to the case of the petitioners.

The judgment was delivered virtually.
