In Birmingham tonight, Amir Khan will be hoping to take a step closer towards a mega fight with a victory over Samuel Vargas. The last time Amir Khan stepped his foot in a boxing ring for a competitive bout, it all lasted 39 seconds as Phil Lo Greco was at the receiving end of Khan’s speed and punches.

The clash with Samuel Vargas is Amir Khan’s second fight since returning to the sport after a hiatus of 23 months. Vargas is not a big name but with 29 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats, will offer a stiffer opposition than Phil Lo Greco did and will be a good “workout session” for Amir Khan’s dreams of a mega-fight with a titlist.

Moreover, Vargas is known for being strong enough to receive punches, which he showed against Errol Spence and Danny Garcia; Amir Khan’s glass chin has been exposed a couple of times, notably against Danny Garcia and at his penultimate fight against Saul Alvarez.

Should Amir Khan emerge victorious, a potential mega-fight against British rival, Kell Brook will be on the cards or one with Manny Pacquiao, whom Khan has been trying to get in the ring for years owing to the bad blood between them that occurred during a sparring session.
