An investigation into claims of land grabbing and violence leveled against the Ojora and Oluwa families of Lagos State has been initiated, according to Senate President Ahmad Lawan. Residents of Lagos’ Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area petitioned the Senate to stop suspected land grabs by the area’s powerful families, prompting the investigation. In part, the petition states, “We, the Worried and Angry Group of Ajeromi Ifelodun, are involved in campaigning and protecting the oppressed civic right to life, association, and property ownership against police aggression.” “We demand that the Lagos State government intervene immediately in the recent development that has caused anxiety among its residents.” This development is linked to the Ojora/Oluwa families’ unlawful behavior, in which they hired thugs to rob people’s homes/houses using terroristic and uncivil techniques, forcing hundreds of people to flee their homes. The family is allegedly “taking possession of the specified properties by making the residents homeless” according to the group. The petition states, “According to our records, the majority of the residences they’re seizing have all of the appropriate legal papers as renters and property owners, and they’re paying all of the required dues, including state and local government levies.” “We thought it more impolite and dangerous to human life that the Ojora/Oluwa families and their hired goons removed the roofs of numerous of the houses to demonstrate their dominance.”
