adama traore to decide between spain and mali

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Adama Traore will determine which country he will represent at international level.

The 24-year-old grew up in Spain but is of Malian descent. At all youth levels, he has played for Spain, but for La Roja, he has yet to make a first-team debut.

Adama has been called up twice to the Spanish national team but has been forced to withdraw on both occasions. An injury and positive testing to COVID-19 has kept him from becoming a Spanish international.

The Malian Football Association have now made a second attempt at getting Adama to represent them. To ease the process, the Malian FA has deployed the services of a former international, Frederic Kanoute.

Kanoute is one player who decided to play for Mali despite being eligible to play for France. He spent 12 years playing in Spain for Sevilla and is fluent in Spanish. Kanoute would help in convincing Traore to pick Mali over Spain.

The pacey and energetic winger now has less than 14 days to make his decision. Mali has fixtures against Ghana and Iran scheduled for the second week in October. It is expected that the Spanish FA will also attempt to convince Adama to wait to play for the first team.
