A cross-section of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, led by Actionaid Nigeria and Action Coalition on Education For All, CSACEFA, have called on the Federal Government to seek alternative sources of financing the country’s education,  beyond Budgetary allocation, which they say has remained appalling.

This was the thrust at a one-day workshop on education financing in Nigeria.

Out of the 13.6 trillion naira 2021 budget for Nigeria, 6.3 per cent was allocated to education. A development speakers at the education financing workshop said is grossly inadequate.

The government was challenged to engage more with the private sector for additional sources of funds to better the country’s education.

Esther is a junior secondary three student from one of the public schools in Abuja. She has a first hand experience of the effect of poor funding of education.

Esther’s concerns were echoed by Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo.

To the Nollywood star and other speakers, the absence of government officials at the event further confirms what they described as Nigerian authorities’ lackadaisical approach to improve what they also described as Nigeria’s Dwindling education fortunes.
